quality and breadth of the program give every boy the opportunity to learn
new skills and interests, and improve familiar ones. Mornings and early
afternoons are devoted to instruction in many areas.
Boys may select instruction
in these areas on a weekly basis, and thus are
able to sample a wide variety over the course of the summer. In most instances
they may also pursue a given activity for a number of weeks, allowing
for significant growth and progress in that discipline.
These "occupations"
are designed to meet the needs of boys with a wide range of skill levels,
from beginner to expert. This makes Pemi a wonderful place to learn an
activity for the first time, or to perfect an ability with the aid of
well-trained instructors. Boys who wish to concentrate on an activity
may also do so during the afternoons, when most of the areas are open
and supervised and boys choose activities on a daily basis.
Many evenings are
also devoted to free time during which boys may pursue activities of their
own choice, play informal games such as table tennis, horseshoes, or Frisbee,
or participate in team practices or other group activities which are announced
daily.
Several evenings
per week are set aside for all-camp events, including campfires, nondenominational
Sunday services, Bean Soup (the camp newspaper, written and read
publicly each week since 1910), and special; programs, including movies,
visiting naturalists, musicians and lecturers, and camper/staff talent
shows.
