In our on-going commitment to meet the needs of our campers who require medication while at camp — as well as comply with strict state regulations regarding medication dispensing for summer camps — we require you to have your boys' medication pre-packaged for camp. This summer, we again will work with CampMeds Inc. to dispense, package, and ship medications directly to Pemi. CampMeds is an American Camp Association business affiliate andhas been successfully providing service to over 100 camps throughout the US for the past eight summers.
All campers and staff who take medication in pill form on a regular basis (including prescription and non-prescription, such as vitamins, fish oil, Zyrtec, and Claritan) must enroll with Camp Meds to dispense and supply the pills. Enroll through their web site: www.campmeds.com. Pay close attention to deadlines for submitting prescriptions!
Medications that are in pill form are individually packaged and sealed according to date and time of administration. Each individual packet may contain one or more pills that are prescribed to be given at the same time. This method of dispensing medicine during camp minimizes potential med errors, ensuring that every boy gets the correct medication and dosage, at the right time, on the right day. It also allows your son to return to his camp activities sooner, because administering meds that are pre-packaged and organized reduces his time spent in line waiting for meds! Our nurses have more time for medication-management as well as for the everyday needs of an active camp community.
Please remember that all medication at camp is dispensed at mealtimes. Only if medically necessary and if a specific time is written on the prescription, will the meds be dispensed at a different time of day. You are responsible to check that your child's prescriptions are written exactly how and when the medication is to be given. For example, if the med is to be taken only as needed, the prescription must be written that way; if the med is to be the "brand drug," the prescription must specify "brand only" or the generic will be dispensed.
