Swimming
at Pemi
he
abundance of swimming opportunities at Pemi stems from the superb facilities
on Lower Baker Pond. Two natural beach areas and clear, warm water provide
boys with ample space for instructional and recreational swimming on a
daily basis. The morning instructional program includes Red Cross swimming
and rescue offerings, as well as instruction in competitive swimming,
diving and water polo.
Competitive swimming
has been a part of the intramural and intercamp program for generations
at Pemi. Oberlin College Head Swimming Coaches Ralph Bibler and
Richard Michaels served Pemi as Waterfront Directors, and more
recently Terry Sweetser raised the level of Pemi swimming with
his inspirational coaching. Fred Seebeck, currently Head Coach
of Swimming and Water Polo at the Loomis Chaffee School was a 25-year
Pemi veteran, and was in evidence last season to officiate at both intercamp
meets and the sesaon-ending Swimming Championships. Most of last year's
swim coaching staff will return intact, including
- Ken Moore
(Kenyon) and
- Carl Dietz
(Andover varsity swimming and water polo).
