Lacrosse
at Pemi
acrosse
is relatively new at Pemi, and is one of the fastest-growing and most
popular sports. The level of instruction and coaching has kept pace with
this popularity, and in recent years more Pemi players have gone on to
success on secondary and college teams
in lacrosse than in any other sport. Fewer boys come to camp with a background
in the sport, and Pemi is an ideal place for a beginner to learn the fundamental
skills in the instructional program. At the same time, intermediate and
advanced players have the opportunity to hone their skills with individualized
instruction and intercamp playing opportunities.
The most influential
coach in the last decade has been Lou Young, a Dartmouth graduate
and one of the most respected coaches in Northern New England. Currently
Head Coach at Woodstock, Vermont, High School, Lou has won numerous state
championships and coaching accolades. His time at Pemi set the standard
which has been continued by a number of player/coaches, including
- Kevin O'Brien
(Captain at Pennsylvania, Assistant Coach at Andover),
- Leif Dormsjo
(Wesleyan, current Coach at St. Paul's in Baltimore),
- Matt Bagley
and Conor O'Brien (Ohio Wesleyan).
