First and foremost, these men and women love teaching young people about the things they, themselves, love to do. They are all experienced wilderness leaders, and each has particular expertise in one or more specific areas, such as natural history (local flora, fauna and geology), environmental issues, technical climbing and mountaineering, cultural anthropology (local human history), and leadership and group process. Many are Pemi alumni.
